Session 2: Into the Sewers?
Eh, the forums sit hates me and won't let me freaking make a new forum, so you get the Session 2 Recap right here! With that being said...previously on the latest adventures of this weird ass gang we've pulled together:
After the fight with the goblins wrapped up, we finished up the rest of the Beer Games without any further incident. We weren't sure where the Goblins came from, or what they were attempting to accomplish by kidnapping that gnome, but alas, our trail ran cold.
Realizing that we were going to have to settle in here in this big freaking town, our characters had to decide how to spend the next three months of downtime. Vale spent some time performing for extra gold, then turned around and put it back in his Apothecary, where Mouse would come on her days off to ask so many questions regarding alchemy. He makes quiet a bit of nice coinage during his sales in the three months that passed.
Mouse, with no where to really call home, took up joining the Black Cloaks, working to make money to continue renting out her warehouse space that she now calls home. She continued working for Constable Daryl, trying to regain favor with the local guard after her debacle in the square with that one kid (we don't want to just get over that incident to be honest). On her days off, she spends visiting Vale, learning about his source of magic and seeking friendship and expanding her knowledge base of the city she's grown up in. She quickly becomes familiar with the streets.
Hush bought a griffon saddle for his performances and made himself comfortable at the Over Sized Cup. He excels in stand up comedy and silly performances, and manages to make himself a bit of gold with his acts. On his last night at the Over Sized Cup, he gets into a drinking contest with a donkey and looses terribly.
Maevdora felt some obligation to follow Hush and ensure his naive approach to the humans wouldn't be taken advantage of. Especially when it came to purchasing goods. When she wasn't watching his back or teaching him the way of the humans, she worked closely with the local clergy, taking to the streets and helping track and heal diseases with the local populace. She looses money on Hush when he takes on the Donkey for a drinking contest.
The next morning after the drinking contest, the donkey approaches Hush to speak with him, only to knock Maev out with a sleep spell. After some negotiation and a revival of Maev (I see a theme here), it is discovered that the donkey can speak, and is missing her owner, Benny. He has been missing for three months. Before Hush and Maev run off with the Donkey, now known as Lucifer, they go to collect some of their comrades. Mouse talks to Daryl before leaving to investigate, and finds that Queen Phoebe of the orphans is missing some children, Benny was reported to watch the kids (like a creep), and there's more reports of missing people. Oh, and Goblins. There's always Goblins; the nasty things.
When we collect Vale and Fulgar, we are greeted by the third dragonborn to the city, Zapps, another bronze dragonborn. he joins the party for their investigation of Benny's house. (Also at this point we find out that Lucy flies because of her horse shoes, and she's addicted to alcohol and is old as ever. Like older than the city old.)
More information is found about Benny. We know he's a druid, we know he liked to experiment with multiple different types of exotic plants, and he's old. He's been around the city before it was even created. The last Lucy had seen him was before he departed to the Cup to fill her alcohol needs when he went missing. The places he most frequented were his friend Mestopheles of Trader Joe's at the Auction House, the Lucifirum Rock fountain and the sewer, where he was looking for a man with a cart. The party is then informed to not talk to the apple tree inside since it was stupid. It didn't hold conversation with us.
Then we're off, talking about how to get into the sewer system to pick up on Benny's trail when Mouse reveals she knows of a near entrance that's going to be easy for us to access and that she has a rough map of the two levels of the sewer system on her. There's a buried trap door at the back of Vale's property, much to his surprise. When we get in and start snooping around, we find a group of repairmen working. They give us some direction as to where to start kind of looking for the cart man and the missing kids. We follow their direction and come across three goblins who try to flee, but get knocked out with sleep. After much questioning, we find that they have been using body parts found in the sewers to set bait for monster traps, and there's three goblin tribes running the sewers; the centipedes, the slimes and the rats. We keep them tied up and continue on, only to find three more goblins. We attack as the captured group calls out to the free group, and the attack is interrupted by a disgruntled guy who enslaved the gobbos to help him with his illegal mushroom business. After much finagling, we eventually reach an agreement that we will get free samples from the shrooms today and the man (Steve?) will be supplying Vale's shop too. We again, get directed to the Slimes' territory, and we hand over our goblin captives.
Finally, Hush is hungry and we agree for a short rest in which we stop to have lunch. And that's when the cart man shows up with his cart and wind chimes (Zapps is intrigued by the wind chimes). He tells us that he'll trade stories for his food and Hush immediately traded a story for a turkey leg. While Vale and the others inquire after the cart man about information, Maev looks around the cart and eventually (not subtly) breaks in and finds a pantry that's locked tightly. With much meddling, she breaks into the pantry and exposes a horrific scene. There's a glass vial that is full of blood, the walls in the pantry are covered in gore and red candles surround the scene. Disturbed, Maev confronts the cart man and initiates an attack, which he runs from, only to be nabbed by Hush with another sleep spell. Interrogation is underway, in which he reveals he's working for the Blood God, Amock, but it's a long conversation to be had to finally get that information. While he talks, Maev and Mouse study the vial, and find that it's warm to the touch and pulses. When Zapps finally kills the cart man, Maev throws the vial at the wall, in which it breaks and a heavy aura fills the room, causing fear and dread. Everyone runs to hide behind the cart, and an explosion knocks everyone out. When we wake up, we find the vial is filled again, and Maev hears a voice in her head 'Blood for the Blood God pleases me, my champion' which is upsetting and gross. (Also, Hush stole the shrooms from Vale with the distraction on a nat 20 roll).
And then we leveled up! So everyone should be level 2 by the next time we meet! Good game you guys!

Re: Session 2: Into the Sewers?
Do we know the origination of Lucifirum Rock? It seems a bit suspicious that our friendly donkey, Lucy for short and Lucifer for long, is hundreds of years old and probably from before the city was situated.

Re: Session 2: Into the Sewers?
I think Lucy knows A LOT more than she lets on. I’m thinking some of Benny’s plants don’t need to be left alone, and perhaps the less dangerous ones should take residence in your greenhouse where they may benefit from the magic of your lute-playing. I also think we’ll be stopping in to see Lucy again soon!
